A gîte near Argentan
on the way to the Pays d’Auge

Argentan is a convenient place to arrive for your stay at Le Hameau des Prés-Verts. From the station or the town centre, allow about 25 minutes by car to reach Les Champeaux. You leave the town behind for the landscapes of the Orne’s Pays d’Auge and a house all to yourselves.

Reinette Grise sleeps up to 6, the Chalet Normand up to 4. Both gîtes have a fully equipped kitchen and Wi-Fi, and both welcome pets.

Coming by train to Argentan

Planning the journey from Paris

Trains run to Argentan from Paris Montparnasse. Look up the timetables for your dates and choose the journey that fits your arrival at the Hameau. Travel times and connections vary from one train to another.

Getting from the station to the gîte

You will need road transport between Argentan and Les Champeaux. Book your hire car or taxi in advance, and think about getting around during your stay as well. Shops, producers and the main sights cannot all be reached on foot from the Hameau.

Sorting out this last leg before you leave lets your holiday begin more calmly, especially if you arrive late or at a busy time of year.

Discovering Argentan during your stay

The town’s museums and heritage

The museum devoted to Fernand Léger and André Mare, together with the Maison des Dentelles (the lace museum), make for a cultural outing. The historic centre rounds off the visit. Check opening times and exhibitions before you go, so you can pick the stops that interest you.

Markets to stock up for meals at the gîte

Argentan holds markets on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sunday mornings. A stop there can go with your arrival or with a day of sightseeing. You then bring your shopping back to your kitchen and cook whenever you please.

Choosing your house in the Norman bocage

Reinette Grise brings half-timbered walls, a fireplace, two bedrooms including a master suite, and a large private garden. The Chalet Normand has two bedrooms, one leading into the other, and a heated pool reserved for its guests during the season.

Both houses can be booked by one person, a couple or a group, within their capacity. When choosing, look at how the bedrooms are laid out and what each house offers, rather than just the number of guests.

Extending your holiday in the Orne

Argentan can be both your arrival point and a day out in its own right. The Haras national du Pin, France’s national stud, is a natural addition to a programme devoted to equestrian heritage; Camembert and the countryside around Les Champeaux invite you to discover local produce and the footpaths of the Pays d’Auge.

The Hameau is at 1258 chemin des Manis, 61120 Les Champeaux. On-site parking is free for your car throughout your stay.
