A gîte near Falaise
to discover medieval Normandy
William the Conqueror’s castle can be the starting point of your holiday in Normandy. About thirty-five minutes’ drive from Falaise, Le Hameau des Prés-Verts welcomes you at Les Champeaux, among the landscapes of the Orne’s Pays d’Auge.

You stay in a house of your own: Reinette Grise for up to 6 guests or the Chalet Normand for up to 4. In the morning you set off for Falaise; back home, your kitchen and living space let you carry the day on at your own pace.
Planning a day in Falaise
The castle of William the Conqueror
The castle’s keeps and walls tower over the town. The visit brings you close to the history of the Dukes of Normandy and their stronghold. Check the official information for the tours on offer, tickets and any events on your dates.
If you are coming with children, find out what visitor aids are available and allow enough time to go round without hurrying. You can then carry on with a stroll through the town.
Heritage beyond the castle
The ramparts and streets of Falaise tell more of its story. The Mémorial des Civils dans la Guerre, a memorial to civilians in wartime, offers a different perspective, rooted in the Second World War. Choose your stops according to your interests and the opening times, rather than trying to fit everything into one outing.

Staying several days around Falaise
Staying at Les Champeaux lets you pair Falaise with other discoveries: Camembert and its cheese dairies, the Haras national du Pin (France’s national stud) or the markets of the Pays d’Auge. You can give one day to the castle, then return to plans closer to home.
Depending on your dates, the Saturday market in Falaise can round off your visit. For seasonal events and gatherings, look at the town’s calendar before planning your stay.
Two gîtes to find peace and quiet after sightseeing
At Reinette Grise, half-timbering, a fireplace and a large private garden make up a country house with two bedrooms, including a master suite. At the Chalet Normand, the open-plan living room leads onto a terrace and a heated pool, reserved for its guests in season. Its two bedrooms open one into the other.
Pets are welcome in both houses. Breakfast can be booked as an extra. The outdoor hot tub, at 38 °C, is included, with a private slot to book ahead.
