Gacé and the Touques valley

A stop in the Orne side of the Pays d’Auge

Gacé lies in the Touques valley. The town shows you another side of the Orne, somewhere between heritage and countryside. You might plan a stroll through the centre and make a day of it in the surrounding area.

From Les Champeaux, you travel along the lanes of the bocage (hedged farmland). Leave some leeway in your plans, especially if you have an appointment or a visit at a set time.

The château and the Lady of the Camellias

The Château de Gacé and its museum devoted to the Lady of the Camellias give your visit a cultural thread. The museum recalls Alphonsine Plessis, who inspired the heroine of Alexandre Dumas fils. Check visiting arrangements and any guided tours before you set off.

Opening may be seasonal: plan this stop with the town or the tourist office, to make sure the visit you have in mind is available on your dates.

A rental for a few days or a longer holiday

Each house has a fully equipped kitchen, so you can organise your meals just as you like. Head out for the day, come back between two appointments or keep some time to yourself here. Wi-Fi is available in both houses.

Reinette Grise has two bedrooms, including a master suite, and a large private garden. The Chalet has two bedrooms with double beds, one opening onto the other, a terrace and a heated pool reserved for its guests during the season. Compare the layouts before you choose.

Make the most of your stay to explore the area

Camembert and Vimoutiers are easy outings from the Hameau. The Haras national du Pin, France’s national stud, offers another idea for a day out, this time to discover the region’s equestrian heritage. You can spread these visits around your time in Gacé and shape the programme to the length of your stay.

In the morning, the Hameau breakfast can be booked as an extra. The hot tub, at 38 °C, is included in the price of your stay; book your private slot in advance.

Arriving at Les Champeaux

The Hameau’s address is 1258 chemin des Manis, 61120 Les Champeaux. Parking is free. A car remains the easiest way to reach Gacé and to get around this rural part of the Orne.
